Have you ever fallen victim to a bad hair cut or perhaps a bad dye job. Well, I fell victim to both. You know when you show your hair stylist a picture of what you want, I have come to realize you’re just never going to get it. (And in my defense it was pretty realistic and totally achievable) Yet, he took a very, very wrong turn. I didn’t even pretend to like it to spare his feelings. I HATED it. It was way too short and all I could think was imagine when it’s curly! Its going to shrink up even more! The color was greenish-grey-icy-ash blonde/brown. Basically way too many adjectives adding up to nothing that I wanted! Luckily I spoke up and he agreed to fix the color but as for the cut it was too late. This is the first time I hated my hair … There have been other times where I’m like blah about it but I can still definitely live with it. This time was different, I hated it and when it happens to you, you know the mixed emotions that come flooding in.
First thought: Can I fix it? Can he fix it. Do I even trust him to fix it? I don’t believe a word he says anymore. Is he sabotaging me? Why did this happen? Are you trying to teach me a lesson God ?
And then you try to be positive: At the right angle and right lighting it isn’t too bad. At least my dead ends are all gone and I can start fresh. It’s just hair, it’ll grow !
And then : Its been an hour since my cut, why hasn’t it grown ?!?!
Simply put, a roller coaster of emotions and alot of WHHYYYs.
Also I have to note, I have heard the phrase “you get what you pay for” And this, let me tell you was not cheap. I paid 400 dollars… Like das esspenssive! So to fathom that I paid that much for the opposite of what I wanted was the salt on an open wound.
First, a little background information on my hair. I have really course, thick, curly hair. Why is it that that hair type takes thee longest to grow (you can imagine how upset I was when I saw how much he cut…Two years! It took me two years to get my hair passed my bra strap and in 60 seconds it was all gone). I had trouble growing it out before and that had to do with the constant hair extensions I would wear and lack of haircuts I would get. Up until last year I started taking care of it by using heat protectants and deep conditioning hair masks. But now I’m going full throttle on everything plus more.
I’ve decided to take some serious steps to get some length back and if you would like you can follow me on my hair journey! I’ll keep you updated if anything I’ve been doing actually works. Biotin, prenatals, coconut oil, castor oil, no heat, frequent trims …I’m trying it all!!!
Can you hear the desperation bouncing off your screens?!
Here is a video describing my first steps:
