I have a deep infinite love for mascara. You know the question that almost every beauty editor asks, “If you were on a desert island what item would you bring?” Although I’m almost certain makeup would not be on the top of my list, if at all…I know the answer they are fishing for. If it must be beauty related, I would definitely choose mascara. Doe-eyed on a desert island… it has a nice ring to it..
After LipSmackers lipgloss (and does that really even count), mascara was the first makeup item I owned. Sure, it was clear and by Bonne Bell, but even back in 8th grade I understood the power of mascara. Lashes instantly drives the attention to your eyes and makes you look wide awake. Whatever mess of an eyeshadow I got going on, with a few swipes of mascara, I instantly look pulled together. It automatically updates my muddled lid to a sultry sheen. I’ve owned heaps of mascaras in my mascara life span. To completely age myself, from the year 2000-this present day. Nearly two decades. (DECADES!) So yes, I would say, I’ve experimented with quite a few. Here are my top mascara picks from the drugstore.

Weraing L’Oreal Miss Manga Rock Mascara
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara
My most frequently bought mascara out of the lot. I had a full year’s stint where I would strictly re-buy this one. I love everything about it. From the small plastic-y comb that allows me to precisely kiss every lash with its inky goodness, to the formula itself which never flakes. Its gives me both crazy length and volume. It is a true gem at the drugstore.
L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black
I feel like this should be dubbed the classic rather than Maybelline Great Lash. I never understood why that one got so much praise. L’Oreal Voluminous has been a staple throughout my mascara life, and I’m pretty sure it was the first real mascara I owned back in high school. Almost everyone I know holds this one as their holy grail, and you can’t blame them. Its that one reliable mascara you spot in the realm of thousand-brightly-colored- $10-and-under-tubes that you know will never let you down. Its familiar, it leaves your lashes fluttery, long and natural… it simply gets the job done-no frills, no gimmicks. Also I find it very comparable to the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, and at 6 bucks, its actually better than Better than Sex. Are you still with me?
L’Oreal Miss Manga
I’m not even going to lie, I initially purchased this one because of the kawaii ad that went along to market this. They totally spoke to me on this one, but I’m glad because its one of my absolute favorites!! It has a bendy wand which allows me to easily get into every corner and also build up layers, which I love because I tend to go in with a lot of layers. The bristled brush pumps tons of volume to my lashes. Whenever I wear this one I always have to defend my natural lashes. No falsies here..
L’Oreal Miss Manga Rock
Since I was already highly impressed with the og formula, I had to try out her sister. Initially I didn’t think I was going to love the Miss Manga Rock because they marketed it as spiky, which translated more as clumpy. I think they should’ve left the over dramatization out on this one because it was so misleading and the drama this mascara punches is the perfect amount. In just a few swipes I have the desired volume and length I love on my lashes. The brush is a molded rubbery type of wand vs. the bristled brush of the og Miss Manga. This one is hands down my holy grail mascara from the drugstore, but I’m sensing that I may need to find a replacement because it is becoming harder to find.
Maybelline Colossal Spider Effect Mascara
They nailed it on the head with naming this one because my lashes legit feel like daddy long legs after a few swipes of this formula. Its one of the best mascaras I’ve used to the death. You know when you can tell the mascara is reaching the end and it tends to get clumpy? Well, I have never experienced that with this one. It almost gets better the more you use it. The brush allows me to achieve maximum length. I swear my lashes graze my brow bone with this one. I absolutely love it.
Maybelline Lash Sensational
The brush on this one threw me off at first, until after the 3rd time and I was completely blown away. Currently, this is the mascara that I’ve been reaching for again and again. The brush is curved and has tons (TONS!) of bristles. Like 10 layers guys! They coat my lashes beautifully giving me lots of volume. The brush also does a really nice job of separating my lashes and creating an extremely plush flutterly lash. I love to use this one for an everyday look because although it gives me mega lashes, since it doesn’t clump at all, it feels very light and natural.
PSA: None of these mascaras flake or make your lashes feel uncomfortable. That is my number one deal breaker.
My favorite way to remove mascara:
Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser
Elf Gel Melt Cleanser
Glossier Milky Jelly

10 Jul 2017Great review! So nice to find someone else that loves Loreal Miss Manga – one of my all time favs. My fear is that they are discontinuing it because it was on a rollback price when I went to Walmart a week ago and then it was gone from the shelves. That will really bum me out. I never tried the Rock version so I ordered one of Amazon. Just tried the Maybelline Spider Effect. The jury’s still out on that one. I’m going to have to work with that brush some more before I decide if I like it or not. You know how that goes 🙂
